The first thing you need to know is that Marketing is, after
Production and Logistics, the largest department in any business. In fact, even
certain design aspects of Production and promptness and safety of Logistics are
functions within the scope of Marketing in as much as they impact directly on
the client and on sales.
We often separate Business Development from Marketing in much
the same way we separate Sales from Marketing.
However, since Marketing is all about the one constant to which
the client identifies emotionally with the company: the message, Marketing and
those responsible for it in the board room is where everything and anything
to do with the client and whatever causes him / her to buy or not to buy, to
stay or not to stay, begins and ends.
Time, Effort, Money, Knowledge
In BizzBuddy
and in some of my speeches, I speak a lot about the four negotiables that
we all have in common.
Whether its about investment or investing, growing your business
online, or setting up a corner store, Time, Effort, Money, and Knowledge is what
is available to us all to get the job done.
Where money is short, time, effort, and knowledge must be in
ample supply. Similarly where time is short, effort must be intensified along
with a greater amount of money and definitely more knowledge.
The one first commonality to each and every instance of the
negotiables is knowledge.
While time, effort, and money can cover a lot of insufficiency
of knowledge, the added amount of this time, effort, and knowledge, can be both
wasted and opportunity lost. This is never a positive.
So, the first thing is always to start with knowledge even if
you have to buy some of it to get off to the right start while growing into it
yourself.
For example, our start online was severely stunted because we
felt that time, effort, and a bit of money would make up for our lack of
knowledge. It doesn't work that way. Knowledge is King.
Online we finally decided that Best is Best in much the same way

Out.

Results are why you do anything
As we mentioned earlier, results are why you do anything. Better still,
dramatic positive results are why you do anything and everything.
But, to be a result, whatever it is that you produce must be identifiable,
definable, measurable, and timelinable. Otherwise, why do it?
If any one of those criteria to being a result is missing, it is merely a
wish attached to a vagary. I don't want to be brutal about this. But, anything
that deprives your focus of the intensity it needs to generate the results you
need to grow your business or any aspect of it has to be seriously challenged
and boiled down to those criteria set against specific desired objectives that
have to be met... within reasonable tolerances.
Traffic is King.
Better still, highest buying quality, free, organic traffic is King.
Online or in the real world, no traffic, nobody walking through your place of
business means simply no sales or not even the chance of a sale.
However, floor traffic or web site site views doesn't mean that everyone is
going to buy. In fact, in most, people don't buy or don't buy on the first, the
second, and often the third pass.
So, too things have to happen before you can make sales and then before you
make enough sales to earn a decent living.
1) You and everybody connected with your business have to seek ways,
each and every day, to get your business message positioned to be found by more
and more and more of the people you need.
Online, that could be typically three thousand to five thousand visitors a
day. In cases where, say, corner stores, see just a few hundred customers a day,
they are also open from seven in the morning till very late at night. That
challenges the aspect of 'decent living'. As much as these are
wonderful people, you want to go beyond that.
While there are at least twenty different ways for you to generate online
traffic, the question of quality comes in and renders most of those as useless.
And, of those that remain, most have been so abused that they need the crutches
of other, newer programs to keep them effective.
Traffic generation changes almost monthly. I kid you not.
2) You must work on fresh, unique, highest quality content both on the floor
of your real world business or on your web site to keep both the search engines
in the virtual world and your prospects in both worlds wanting to come in and to
come back first to make their purchase, then to come back, and then to spread
the word.
Online, it is not uncommon for a high traffic / high sales volume web site to
have upwards of between 2,000 and 10,000 fresh content, coded pages. Most such
webmasters will add anywhere from twenty to sixty of our own original, high
quality content pages monthly along with even more doorway pages along with
other legitimate techniques to drive highest quality, free, organic traffic to
their sites.
Same old same old in both worlds won't do it any more no matter how nice you
are.
3) Your message has to be seriously ramped up, harmonized, and
challenged at least weekly for conversion ratio.
Products don't make sales. The Message
does.
When someone lands on any of your pages or walks through your
store door, there is both a perception and an expectation about how what they
will find and how they will be treated.
While you want to stay within certain norms of efficiency, you
should also understand that oftentimes just small differences in both what and
how you present along with the proper sequential placement that allows your
prospect to move from Wow! to Now! will determine not just whether or not they
will buy but also whether or not they will come back, come back often, and come
back with a friend.
